To underscore its commitment, the Adamawa State Government released ₦300 million as a matching grant to the Child Nutrition Fund, providing critical financial resources to scale up nutrition interventions. This move aligns the state with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and strengthens collaboration with the Federal Government.
The State Council on Nutrition 774, inaugurated during the event, will be chaired by the Governor and will coordinate multi-sectoral actions across health, education, agriculture, women affairs, and social protection. The Permanent Secretary of Budget & Economic Planning will serve as Secretary to the Council, ensuring seamless integration with state planning and budgetary processes.
Governor Fintiri’s administration has also highlighted the importance of local government leadership, with Chairmen tasked to serve as focal points for identifying vulnerable households, overseeing nutrition interventions, and engaging communities at the grassroots level.
Representing the Federal Government, Mrs. Uju Rochas-Anwukah, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Health, reinforced that malnutrition is a national emergency, affecting one in every three children under five in Nigeria, with nearly half of under-five deaths linked to poor nutrition. She emphasized that Nutrition 774 Initiative’s success depends on state ownership and active participation of local communities.
“The Nutrition 774 Initiative is more than a program — it is a movement to ensure every child, mother, and household receives adequate nourishment. Adamawa State has shown commitment that will set the standard for the North‑East and the nation at large,” Mrs. Anwukah noted.
Adamawa State’s approach integrates nutrition-sensitive programming into health, education, agriculture, women affairs, and social protection, ensuring comprehensive coverage. Development partners, including UNICEF, WFP, and other international agencies, pledged ongoing technical and financial support to complement state-led efforts.
The State Council is tasked with:
Designing and implementing community-based nutrition programs
Strengthening maternal and child health systems
Enhancing monitoring, data collection, and evidence-based decision-making
Ensuring accountability and sustainability of interventions
Traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, and community-based groups are positioned as key stakeholders in identifying vulnerable households and facilitating grassroots ownership.
The inauguration of the Adamawa State Council on Nutrition 774 represents a transformative vision: to ensure that no child in the state suffers the lifelong consequences of malnutrition. The state government emphasized the importance of a holistic, inclusive, and collaborative approach, bridging policy, planning, finance, and community action.
“Our collective goal is to build a generation that is healthy, strong, and productive — one that contributes meaningfully to Adamawa State and Nigeria’s future,” Governor Fintiri declared.
With the matching grant, strategic oversight, and active engagement of stakeholders, Adamawa State is set to become a flagship example of Nutrition 774 implementation in the North-East, demonstrating how political commitment, financial resources, and community-driven interventions can produce measurable improvements in public health outcomes.
